I’m writing some articles in view of my observations for the students whom I teach Physics. After 6-7 years of teaching and my own experience of preparation, I am intropecting and trying to dig out what will help our students and students in general.
Understanding one’s capacity and giving one’s best
According to the Vedic Scriptures, everyone possesses a mind, intelligence and a false ego. Recently NCERT has also included in its texts, the fact that the mind is a seperate entity than the brain. So, altough we cannot see the mind, intelligence and ego as they are very subtle, they’re undeniably present.
The level of intelligence is more or less fixed. It is fixed based on our previous karma. So, instead of competing with others, one should compete with oneselves! This is what had helped me in my preparation.
Take inspiration from others but compete with oneselves.
Don't try to be the best, try to give your best...
One has to be honest and understand one’s abilities. I had some friends who used to be way way ahead of me in terms of marks, understanding but in normal dealings we were friends. Our group had very studious boys and studying with them, discussing with them helped me keep my interest. Till 10th I was not interested much in studies honestly. But as soon I came in 11th, I got very good friends who were studious and serious about JEE.
So, the point is that I was never depressed over the fact that they were better than me. There was no doubt about it. In mock tests before JEE where I got -2 in Mathematics, some scored 70% . I was like, fine this is part of life. Ups and downs! I’m giving my best, so let’s leave the rest to God.
And one should not be proud of one’s intelligence. I had many friends, who encourged me, helped me who scored much much less than what I did. But why were we friends? Because, they were good, serious, dedicated and well wishing to me. In fact, I could relate more to these friends rather than the toppers.
Bhagavad Gita 2.15
“O best among men [Arjuna], the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.”
So, we have to understand that at the end of the day, the results are not in our hand. What is in our hand is, our efforts. So, let’s prepare in such a way that on the day of the exam, one has a confidence from within that I have given my best.
